Why install MCP servers from VS Code?

Stay in your workflow

MCP servers extend what AI assistants can do, but installing them usually means switching between browser tabs, GitHub repos, and JSON config files. The VePrompts extension brings the directory into your editor so you can find, evaluate, and install servers without leaving your project.

Avoid config mistakes

A single missing comma or wrong environment variable name can break an MCP client. The extension validates server config before writing it, prompts for required API keys, and backs up your existing config so you can recover quickly.

Works with every major client

The extension detects which MCP clients are installed on your machine and writes the correct config file for each one. Supported clients include Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, and Windsurf.

Free and open source

The extension is free to use and released under the MIT License. There is no signup, no telemetry, and no payment required. If you prefer manual control, use the Copy Config button to paste the JSON into your own files.
